Wednesday 5th December – America aid fundraiser (PM)

Friday 22nd March – Egyptian Museum (PM)

Thursday 28th March – Class assembly (AM)

Autumn: Passport to the Americas!

We will be investigating the physical and human geography of different regions of the American continents as well as learning about festivals such as Carnival and Dia de los Muertos. Additionally, we will be exploring current issues in the Americas such as deforestation, disaster relief and fair trade.

Spring: Ancient Egypt!

An exciting term where we will be imagining what it was like to discover the mysterious tombs of the pharaohs. We will be using our archaeology skills to piece together what ancient Egyptian life may have been like and will demonstrate our creativity as we make replica artefacts in art and design.

Summer: London through the ages!

This term the children will be travelling back through the recent history of our capital city, exploring how life has changed for children and adults through the 20th century. We will be focusing on the effect of technology on the changes in entertainment and tourism as well as how the people of London have coped through years of challenge.

Class points

In our class, the children are working collectively to earn points towards our class treat. These are awarded for outstanding teamwork, and representing our class well as a whole around the school, for example in assemblies or the dinner hall.

Each treat is decided democratically by the children, currently we are working towards:

A movie afternoon with treats!

Homework is set each week on a Friday to be handed in the following Wednesday. It involves:

  • Timestable practice: either on TT rockstars (available online or as an app for phones and tablets) or in your own way to help with the children’s fluency of times and divide facts ready for our maths lessons and weekly times table tests.
  • Spelling practice: either on Spellodrome or using other strategies. An explanation of the rule and some example of words that we are learning will be included on the homework sheet but you can explore the rule and find more of your own too.
  • Reading: developing a love of books through reading your child’s school book, library book, newspaper, magazines, comics, web pages, the possibilities are endless! Ideally this should be recorded in the child’s reading record 5 times a week.
  • An extra task, normally maths or English based. Children should aim to spend 20 minutes on this task to consolidate a concept that we have been learning in class. If it isn’t clear then please let Mr Cole know on Monday or Tuesday and he can explain it again.
